1. Project Overview

This plan outlines the proposed expansion and paving of an existing parking lot area at Alta Ski Area. The intent of the project is to improve parking capacity, durability, and drainage performance while maintaining compatibility with surrounding terrain and infrastructure.

The expanded parking area will be designed to safely manage surface runoff, control erosion, and ensure long-term structural stability in a mountain environment.

2. Grading & Drainage Plan

The expanded parking surface will be graded to maintain a consistent 2-degree slope across the paved area. This slope is designed to promote positive drainage, prevent ponding, and direct stormwater toward designated collection points.

Final grades will be tied into existing pavement and surrounding ground elevations to ensure smooth transitions and safe vehicle movement.

3. Retaining Wall - North Side

A retaining wall will be constructed along the north side of the expanded parking area to retain adjacent grades and maximize usable paved space. The wall will be designed to accommodate site-specific soil conditions and loading requirements.

The retaining wall will also assist in controlling runoff and preventing slope instability in this area.

4. Stormwater Management

A complete stormwater management system is included as part of this plan. Surface runoff from the paved area will be conveyed to a precast concrete drop box, designed to collect and direct flows efficiently.

A precast wingwall will be installed at the outlet to provide structural protection, guide flow, and reduce erosion at discharge points. The system is designed to handle anticipated storm events and comply with applicable local and site-specific requirements.

5. Erosion Control Measures

Erosion control measures will be implemented throughout construction and maintained until the site is fully stabilized. These measures may include, but are not limited to:

  • Silt fencing or equivalent perimeter controls

  • Stabilized construction access points

  • Temporary surface protection during grading

  • Final stabilization following paving and wall installation

All erosion control practices will be installed in accordance with standard best management practices (BMPs) for mountain and high-runoff environments.
